I like the wider layout but I have a couple questions:

  1. Is it possible to not have the dark blue border around the banner at the top, or at least have that color be configurable (because all the themes have this problem)?
  2. Why does the page have to be a fixed width at all?
  3. Why can't we make our own custon color schemes?
  4. Can we get a builtin theme that actually looks like this site and http://www.toastmasters.org/ instead of what it used to look like several years ago?

The first one is the only one of immediate import but I'd love answers to all of them

Hello Adam,

I will try to answer some.

  1. Is it possible to not have the dark blue border around the banner at the top, or at least have that color be configurable (because all the themes have this problem)?

You can "fix" this problem by resizing your banner to the new recommended size of 960 by 100 pixels. Still, the option of choosing that border/background color would be nice.

2. Why does the page have to be a fixed width at all?

Why generally, I dont know. But it also helps to avoid that the borders around your banner appear on some pages ;)

3. Why can't we make our own custon color schemes?

The colour schemes just offer an easy start to setting up your site. But you are not obliged to stick to the few colours of that scheme.
You can add any color you like to your custom pages (including home page) which changes the overall impression completely.
You can also choose a custom background color in the "website settings" section of your admin area.

4. Can we get a builtin theme that actually looks like this site and http://www.toastmasters.org/ instead of what it used to look like several years ago?

I leave that one for Brian to answer ;)

Best,

Melanie

Melanie - Thanks for some of the insight, but there are a couple issues. The first is that regardles of the size of the banner the border is outside of it (on the table element) so I can't cover it up by resizing the banner. Also, you say I'm not obliged to stick with your color scheme but while I can customize the content pane of each page I can't customize the look of the navigation pane beyond switching between the predefined themes which is of course the impetus for the last question. But again, thanks for at least responding, hopefully Brian can provide insite on the possible future availability of the new TI theme and custome border color or removing the border entirely?

Hi Adam,

Yes I see now what you mean with border color. I thought you were talking about the blue areas on the left and right of your banner, actually the backround. You cant really remove it yet, just diminish it to a thin line.

As I said, I would like to have the option to change that color too.

As for the color schemes, I know it is a pitty that in the menu area we can not move beyond the given schemes. I thought so myself several times.

But what happened, now that we are offered quite a variety of schemes in comparison to the beginning, that we were happily trying some of them - and eventually moved back to the “dusty” old brown theme and are actually quite happy with it Laughing

So I was just trying to offer an alternative.

I am also looking forward to what the administrators and programmers will say to having our own colors to play with – and the TI scheme.

Thank you very much for these suggestions.

Best

Melanie

Oh for the days of the model "T" that came in only one colour. Innocent

Remember FTH is designed for those who do not do web design and do not want to spend time maintaining. For those with greater ambitions they have the choice to go out into the world and purchase website hosting.

We have clubs who come and go depending on who has to maintain the the club site.

Thank you, Brian Laughing

If we get carried away and ask too much for free, just tell us Wink

Would not change the freetoasthost page for anything...
